Love Sucks: Vampire Dating Simulator
Game Design / Project Proposal
“The full moon shines bright as you surrender your dignity to download a dating app.
Your phone brightly displays the app name: vHarmony…”
Game Summary
Love Sucks is a parody dating simulator based around the romanticism of vampires. First made in Processing, this game started as an assignment to get used to coding a working game. There are three vampires available to date: Sarah, Bella and Stephen. Each vampire has their own tastes and desires that will be hinted at to the player in order to gain affection and hopefully score a date!
Love Sucks Post Mortem
Most of the code of the game become increasingly unusable, as the game became larger and harder to predict how the code would interpret it. The basic structure of the game is fully written out, but only 1/4 made it into the game itself. The game functioned as a clicker game, just tapping and gifting to raise affection in order to get a decent grade in time for the project to be shown at a local school event. Even then, the game had trouble staying together.
In the future I plan to revisit this game as it has a lot of potiental and good memoeries. It would be a shame to let all the work that went into the game itself go to waste. In another project I had started using a Unity plug-in “Fungus”, which may be the best place for this game in the future.
Artwork & Design
While the game itself had some struggles with user interface and coding structure, making the sprites and other artwork was the spark to light my passion for making game assets. Each character had a full set of sprites as well as their own sense of fashion. I wanted each character to follow a certain theme for what kind of vampire they were based off different media.
Bella was to be based off vampires in movies, Sarah was to be based off of vampires in tv shows and Stephen was to be based off vampire literature.
